Harbor Point Celebrates First Tech Goes Home Graduating Class

Harbor Point on the Bay is proud to announce the successful completion of its inaugural Tech Goes Home digital literacy course. This seven-week program, offered in partnership with the nonprofit Tech Goes Home, provided comprehensive technology training to residents of the Harbor Point community.

The classes kicked off on February 3rd, 2024, meeting every Saturday morning led by instructor Andy Garcia Suero, a Harbor Point resident and employee. Participants received hands-on lessons covering essential digital skills like internet navigation, online resources, productivity software and more.

"Bringing the Tech Goes Home program to Harbor Point has been an incredibly rewarding experience," said Ryan Bettez, Regional Manager at property management company Corcoran Jennison Management. "We're empowering our residents with tools and knowledge that will open doors for education, employment and simply staying connected in our digital world."

Upon graduating, each participant was awarded a free Chromebook laptop and one year of internet access courtesy of Tech Goes Home. This ensures the learning can continue long after the classes end.

The feedback from this first graduating class has been overwhelmingly positive. One resident shared her gratitude in an email to instructor Andy Garcia Suero:

"You have been very patient and detailed in teaching us. Thank you for making every lesson simple explanations to make us understand (especially me as English is not my first language and I am not getting younger), and inspire the class to participate and have fun while we learn. The Chromebook will be my first laptop and I can't wait to use the knowledge I learned from you, from sending my first emails to searching the internet, to web videos with friends/family, and more."

Students feel a new sense of confidence using technology for remote learning, job searching, accessing resources and more. As another grateful resident shared, "This course opened up a whole new online world that I didn't know existed before."

Corcoran Jennison and Harbor Point are committed to promoting digital equity and inclusion. The success of this initial Tech Goes Home program paves the way for future classes, with the next course already scheduled to begin in May 2024.
